In a few weeks’ time most professional footballers – except for those on international duty – will take a well earned break until pre-season training starts in July.
Endurance runners, however, are expected to be in action the whole year round, so as soon as the cross-country season ended in March the Middle Distance Squad from Dacorum & Tring were out on the track showing excellent early season form in a series of early season Open Meetings and the first EYAL match.
Thomas Ashton, in the photo above, is just a blur as he sprints to the finish in the Watford Open 800m Race 9, winning by four seconds in a new PB of 2.22.64
30 March: Herts Phoenix Open Meeting at Gosling Stadium, Welwyn Garden City
800m, Race 1: George Dowding (U17) took first place in the magnificent time of 2:00.6, nearly three seconds faster than his previous best.
800m Race 2 (Mixed): In his debut appearance in DTAC colours, new recruit Tom Gaunce (U15) took second place in 2:16.7, ahead of Scarlett Wager-Leigh (U20) who finished fourth in 2:24.4.
800m Race 3: Stella Whitlum (U15) showed impressive form to win the race in 2:33.6, a new PB.
1,500m: Sam Burnell (U15) finished ninth in a promising time of 5:02.4.
4 April: Watford Open Meeting
1,500m Race 4: Thomas Ashton (U15) finished third in 4:57.02, a new PB.
1,500m Race 6: Jamie Bailey (U15) finished 11th in 4:56.45
3,000m Race 1: Sam Burnell (U15) finished 10th in 10:57.67, a new PB
3,000m Race Race 2: Freddie Truman-Williams (U17) finished 14th in 10:12.07

15 April: EYAL at Watford
The first EYAL match of the season has previously been reported, but it is worth noting the new PBs achieved by Kristian Imroth (1,500m in 4:06.2, a new U17 club record by 4 seconds); George Dowding (second in the U17 B String 400m in 53.2 – previous best 53.7); and Jessica Hoar (second in the U17 A string 800m in 2:34.1).
18 April: Watford Open Meeting
800m Race 5: Jessica Hoar (U17) finished fifth in 2:35.50, just outside her PB of 2:34.1 achieved in the first EYAL match on 15 April.
800m Race 9: Thomas Ashton (U15) led from start to finish to win in 2:22.64, a new PB by four seconds. In the same race Olivia Edwards (U15) also achieved a new PB, running 2:28.55 in eighth place.
800m Race 19: George Dowding (U17) finished sixth (and second U17) in a time of 2.00.55, a new PB by 0.05 of a second, and indicating how close he is to dipping under the 2-minute mark.
