Olivia Edwards decisively won the 800m at the Herts U13 Challenge event held this evening at St Albans, scoring a massive new PB of 2.30.6 in the process, and moving into the top-50 in the UK for the year to date.
The young Middle Distance star (on the right in the photo above) finished a brilliant first out of 12 competitors, ahead of three top U13 runners from St Albans AC: Lily Tse, who crossed the line in 2.31.0, Orla Foley (2.35.1) and Antonia Jubb (2.38.4).
Olivia’s teammate, Stella Whitlum (on the left in the photo above), was a strong fifth in 2.42.3, a few seconds off her PB of 2.37, and has also secured her credentials as one of the top U13 800m runners in the county.
Olivia executed a “perfect tactical race”, according to her coaches: she ran on the shoulder of the leader for the first 550m and took the field by surprise by attacking with 250m to go, catching the pack off guard and storming to the finish.
Olivia is also ranked within the top 50 (29th) in the 1,500m for U13 girls in the year to date, and she is closing in the long-standing club record in the distance, with three months of the 2017 season to go.
